Variations “Dust”

This work was one of the most challenging things i’ve ever had to write. I was assigned the ensemble at a summer festival, and I was struck by how harmonically limited it felt. It was then that I made it my mission to try to write a duo that felt like a symphony. The work uses a sort of developing variations form to organize its linear progression. It goes from calm to stormy, each variation depicting a different day that dust moves on the wind.
